Terms and Conditions

Lichfield Furniture Company
Last updated: September 2026

These Terms and Conditions explain the basis on which Lichfield Furniture Company supplies products to customers.

They apply to orders placed through our website, by email, through social media, or by another method agreed directly with us.

Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before placing an order.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1. About Us

Lichfield Furniture Company is an independent furniture business based in Lichfield, Staffordshire, United Kingdom.

We design and make handcrafted furniture in our Lichfield workshop and also sell a curated range of homeware and accessories.

For questions about these terms, please contact:

Help@LichfieldFurniture.co

2. Products

We sell two broad types of products:

Handmade Furniture

Much of our furniture is handmade to order in our Lichfield workshop.

Depending on the product, customers may be able to choose from standard sizes, finishes or configurations.

We also offer bespoke furniture made to individual specifications.

Curated Homeware & Standard Products

We also sell selected homeware, accessories and other standard products which may be supplied by third-party manufacturers or suppliers.

Where a product is not handmade by Lichfield Furniture Company, this will be made clear in the product information where appropriate.

3. Product Information

We take reasonable care to ensure that product descriptions, photographs, dimensions and other information shown on our website are accurate.

However, handmade furniture and natural timber may vary slightly from photographs and samples.

Solid wood naturally varies in:

  • grain
  • knots
  • colour
  • texture
  • character
  • tone

These natural characteristics are part of real timber and are not normally considered defects.

Colours shown on screens may also vary depending on lighting, photography and device settings.

Where precise colour selection is important, we recommend ordering or viewing a finish sample before placing your furniture order.

4. Measurements & Bespoke Specifications

Where furniture is made to measurements or specifications supplied by you, it is your responsibility to ensure the information provided is correct.

Please carefully check:

  • dimensions
  • access routes
  • doorways
  • hallways
  • staircases
  • lifts
  • the intended location of the furniture

before confirming your order.

Where we manufacture an item correctly to dimensions or specifications supplied by the customer, we cannot normally accept responsibility if the item does not fit the intended space.

We will confirm the key details of bespoke orders before production begins.

5. Placing an Order

Orders may be placed:

  • through our website
  • by email
  • through an agreed quotation
  • through another method agreed directly with us

Placing an order represents an offer to purchase the relevant products.

We may contact you if we need clarification regarding specifications, delivery details, pricing or availability before accepting an order.

We reserve the right to decline or cancel an order where there is a genuine reason to do so, for example:

  • an obvious pricing or website error
  • inability to obtain required materials
  • inability to deliver to the requested location
  • suspected fraud
  • incorrect or incomplete order information

If we cancel an order after payment has been taken and no goods have been supplied, we will refund any amount due.

6. Prices

All prices are shown in pounds sterling (£).

Prices include VAT where applicable.

Delivery charges may be shown separately depending on the product, order size and delivery location.

We may change our prices at any time, but price changes will not affect orders we have already accepted.

If an obvious pricing error occurs, we may contact you before accepting or fulfilling the order.

7. Payment

Available payment methods will be shown at checkout or confirmed directly with you.

Depending on the order, these may include:

  • debit or credit card
  • digital wallet payment
  • bank transfer
  • third-party payment or finance providers

For some bespoke or higher-value orders, we may agree to accept a deposit followed by a final balance.

Where a deposit arrangement is agreed, the amount and payment schedule will be confirmed before the order is accepted.

Unless otherwise agreed, payment must be completed before furniture is released for delivery or collection.

For current payment information, please see our Payments & Finance page.

8. Made-to-Order Furniture

Many of our standard furniture designs are manufactured after an order is placed.

Being made after order does not necessarily mean that an item is legally considered personalised or bespoke.

Where you order a standard product without individual specifications or personalisation, your cancellation rights will depend on the circumstances and applicable consumer law.

Please see our Returns & Refunds Policy for further information.

9. Bespoke & Personalised Furniture

Furniture made to your individual measurements, specifications, configuration or other clearly personalised requirements may be exempt from the normal 14-day cancellation right which applies to many distance purchases. GOV.UK

We will make clear where an order is considered bespoke or personalised before production begins.

If you wish to cancel a bespoke order, please contact us as soon as possible.

Where cancellation rights do not apply, any refund or retained payment will depend on the circumstances and costs already reasonably incurred.

We will not rely on unfair cancellation charges or automatically retain more than is reasonably justified. GOV.UK guidance makes clear that cancellation terms and retained deposits must be fair and proportionate. GOV.UK

10. Production Lead Times

Production lead times vary depending on:

  • the type of furniture
  • the complexity of the order
  • current workshop workload
  • availability of materials
  • bespoke requirements

An estimated lead time will be shown or communicated when you order.

Lead times are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates unless we specifically agree otherwise.

We will keep you informed if there is a significant delay.

11. Delivery

We offer delivery across most areas of the UK.

Delivery arrangements depend on the size and type of item.

Smaller products may be sent using parcel couriers, while larger furniture deliveries may be arranged using a specialist service or other suitable delivery method.

Delivery charges and arrangements will be confirmed before the order is completed where they are not automatically calculated at checkout.

Please see our Delivery Information page for full details.

12. Collection

Collection from our Lichfield workshop may be available by prior arrangement.

Our workshop is not a retail showroom and is not open to the public without an appointment.

We will contact you when your order is ready for collection.

13. Delivery Access

It is your responsibility to ensure there is suitable access for delivery.

Please check the dimensions of the furniture against:

  • doors
  • hallways
  • staircases
  • lifts
  • gates
  • other access restrictions

before ordering.

If unusual access restrictions exist, please let us know before placing your order.

14. Damage During Delivery

Please inspect your order as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

If an item arrives damaged or anything is missing, contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 48 hours, and provide photographs where appropriate.

The 48-hour period helps us investigate delivery damage promptly but does not remove any statutory rights you may have.

We will work with you to resolve genuine delivery damage in accordance with your legal rights and our Returns & Refunds Policy.

15. Returns & Cancellation — Standard Products

For standard, non-personalised goods ordered online or at a distance, customers will generally have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of receiving the goods, subject to applicable exceptions. GOV.UK

After notifying us of cancellation, goods should normally be returned within 14 days.

Unless the item is faulty or otherwise legally our responsibility, you may be responsible for the cost of returning the item.

Where cancellation rights apply, refunds will be handled in accordance with UK consumer law, including refunding the standard outbound delivery charge where required. GOV.UK

Please see our Returns & Refunds Policy for full details.

16. Faulty Goods

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits your statutory rights.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods supplied to consumers must be:

If you believe a product is faulty, please contact us as soon as possible.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, remedies may include repair, replacement, price reduction or refund.

17. 10-Year Structural Guarantee

Handmade furniture produced by Lichfield Furniture Company is covered by our 10-Year Structural Guarantee, subject to the terms of that guarantee.

The guarantee covers faults relating to the structural integrity of the furniture under normal domestic use, including appropriate aspects of:

  • frames
  • joints
  • structural construction

The guarantee does not normally cover:

  • normal wear and tear
  • accidental damage
  • misuse
  • neglect
  • inappropriate care
  • damage caused by excessive heat, moisture or unsuitable environmental conditions
  • cosmetic changes or natural characteristics of solid timber

Our 10-Year Structural Guarantee is in addition to your statutory consumer rights and does not replace or limit them. GOV.UK

Please see our Our Guarantee page for full details.

18. Furniture Care

Solid timber is a natural material and requires reasonable care.

We recommend following the care guidance supplied with your furniture and available on our Furniture Care page.

Suitable care may include:

  • wiping spills promptly
  • avoiding harsh or abrasive cleaners
  • protecting surfaces from excessive heat
  • avoiding prolonged exposure to excessive moisture
  • using appropriate maintenance products for the finish applied

Care requirements may vary according to the finish used.

19. Natural Timber Movement

Wood naturally responds to changes in temperature and humidity.

Small seasonal changes, natural grain variation, knots, minor movement and changes in tone are normal characteristics of solid timber and do not necessarily indicate a manufacturing fault.

This does not affect your statutory rights where a product is genuinely faulty or not of satisfactory quality.

20. Curated Homeware

Some Curated Homeware products are sourced from third-party suppliers rather than manufactured by Lichfield Furniture Company.

Product descriptions will identify relevant materials, dimensions and other information where available.

Normal consumer rights relating to standard products apply.

21. Product Availability

All products are subject to availability.

On rare occasions, materials, sourced products or components may become unavailable after an order is placed.

If this happens, we will contact you and may offer:

  • a reasonable alternative
  • a revised timescale
  • cancellation and an appropriate refund

where applicable.

22. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the content on this website — including photographs, branding, logos, product descriptions, graphics and original designs — belongs to Lichfield Furniture Company or is used with appropriate permission.

Content may not be copied, reproduced or used commercially without prior written permission.

23. Website Information

We take reasonable care to keep our website accurate and available.

However, we cannot guarantee that:

  • the website will always be uninterrupted
  • all information will always be completely free from minor errors
  • every product will remain continuously available

We may update or change website content where necessary.

24. Our Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

In particular, nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or restricts your statutory consumer rights or any liability which cannot legally be excluded. GOV.UK

We will not seek to exclude responsibility for goods that are faulty, not as described, or otherwise fail to meet legal requirements.

Where permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made or for losses arising from business use where you purchased the goods as a consumer for domestic purposes.

25. Events Beyond Our Reasonable Control

We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform where caused by circumstances genuinely beyond our reasonable control.

Examples may include:

  • serious transport disruption
  • fire
  • flooding
  • severe weather
  • strikes
  • major supplier failure
  • widespread courier disruption
  • government restrictions
  • other exceptional events

If such an event significantly affects your order, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible and explain your options.

26. Privacy & Data Protection

We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Please review that policy for information about how we collect, use, store and protect personal data.

27. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.

The terms that apply to your order will normally be those in force when your order is accepted.

The latest version will be published on this page.

28. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also benefit from any mandatory legal protections applicable where you live.

Nothing in this section limits any rights you may have regarding where legal proceedings can lawfully be brought.
